Strategic Architect Framework: Module 07 Field Guide

Executive Presence

Decision confidence under pressure
Definition: Executive presence is the observable ability to make complexity usable while the stakes are high. It is not charisma, seniority, clothing, extroversion, or certainty. Assess behavior and customer impact, never personality.

The Four Dimensions

DimensionObservable behaviorCommon failureDeliberate practice
ComposureAbsorbs challenge, regulates pace, tolerates silence, and responds to the issue rather than the emotional heat.Answers immediately, talks faster, fills silence, or becomes defensive.Pause for one breath after a challenge. Use the Nine-Second Silence event.
ClarityStates business outcome, material tension, recommendation, and decision ask in a sequence the room can repeat.Opens with background, architecture, or a long preamble before naming the point.Prepare one sentence for outcome, tension, recommendation, and ask. Deliver in 30 seconds.
JudgmentSeparates evidence from assumption, names uncertainty, and makes the real trade-off explicit.Projects certainty, hides a risk, or presents options without a recommendation.Use the Red Update structure and state what evidence would change the recommendation.
ConnectionAcknowledges concern and dissent, adapts language, and confirms that stakeholders can carry the decision.Confuses agreement with commitment or uses empathy as a transition into the pitch.Mirror before advising. Ask the sponsor to repeat the decision in their own words.
